Ford’s Theatre Oratory

Independent 8th grade students will be performing historic speeches, sonnets and poetry as part of the Ford's Theatre National Oratory Fellowship Program. Later this week, two students from The Independent School will be selected to represent Kansas and perform on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and the historic Ford's Theatre stage in May! Special thanks to Mr. Dave McIntire who is the Kansas Ford's Theatre National Oratory Fellow.

Anna, 7th grade, is in Topeka today serving as a page for Senator Oletha Faust-Goudeau.

Pi Day Scavenger Hunt … Ready … Set … Go!

Independent Middle School students are using electronic devices to hunt for QR codes that give them problems to solve for Pi Day.

CPMSL Academic Day!

Independent Middle School students participated in the annual Central Plains Middle School League Academic Day. They competed in Math, Science and Art categories. They placed first in Algebra, were named League Champs in the Science “Mission Impossible” category and came in first in many art categories, including Printmaking, Sculpture, Glass, Colored Ink and Pastel/Oil/Chalk.

The 8th grade Scholars' Bowl team was named League Champions and the 7th grade team was named League Runner-up. Congratulations students and coaches!

Congratulations to Masha and Addie who were selected to represent Independent at the Ford's Theatre Oratory Retreat in Washington D.C. this May. Nineteen 8th grade students competed on Sunday for the opportunity to attend. The students were selected based on grades, citizenship, a written essay, and the performance of their historic speech or slam poem. A special thanks to our guest judges, Independent Alum Laura Lombard, The Wichita Eagle's Suzanne Perez Tobias, and Dr. Martin Burch.

Middle School Students have been exploring the elements of photography including composition, balance, light, and focus. The spring semester started with an activity that included colorful helium balloons. The results were powerful.
