Philosophy
The Independent School athletic program offers students the opportunity to participate in a multitude of team sports. The athletic program emphasizes the importance of developing and maintaining personal fitness for strong performance, health and a positive mental attitude. Sportsmanship, perseverance, the ability to win with character or lose with dignity, self discipline, self reliance, self confidence, a sense of teamwork and team discipline, competitiveness, and the enjoyment of competition for its own sake are characteristics which are at the core of the teachings of the athletic program.

2009-2010 Results:
Upper School:
Since TIS has been a member of the Central Plaines League, we have won 26 League Championships. The past 2 years we have won 9 Championships. For the 2009-2010 seasons, we had the following accomplishments:
- 3 CPL Championships (Girls’ and Boys’ Tennis and Boy’s Cross Country)
- 2 CPL Runner-up Championships (Boys’ Track and Boys’ Golf)
- 3 Regional Championships (Boys’ and Girls’ Tennis and Boy’s Cross Country)
- 3 State Runner-up Championships (Girls’ and Boys’ Tennis and Girls’ Swimming)
- 3 Top 5 State Finishes (Boys’ Track-4th, Girls’ Track - 3rd and Boys’ Cross Country -3rd))
- Boys’ Swimming – 6th in the State
- 1 State Qualifier for Wrestling
- Winning records in baseball and volleyball and boys’ soccer
- 12 individual State Champions (Girls’ Tennis, Boys’ Tennis, Girls’ and Boys’ Swimming and Girls’ and Boys’ Track)
Middle School:
- Football – CPMSL Champions
- Boys’ Basketball – 8th grade CPMSL Champions
- Girls’ Basketball – 7th grade CPMSL Regular Season and Tournaments Champions
- Wrestling, Track and Tennis had several individuals with winning records
