Welcome to The Independent School website! It is our pleasure to share our extraordinary school with you and your family.

Dr. Mary Dickerson, Head of School

TIS is a vibrant teaching and learning environment with a daily mission to provide a superior education conducive to the intellectual, emotional, and physical growth of each individual student.   To put this simply, we are striving for excellence from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12.  TIS graduates are offered admission to some of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the nation.

As you visit our website, you will quickly notice a comprehensive curriculum in each division led by a talented, dedicated faculty and staff.  The fine arts, sports, and athletic competitions have been recognized over the years through multiple state championships.  Our community service projects have been recognized locally, regionally, and nationally.  A comprehensive extracurricular program encourages students to expand their interests and talents on the field, on the stage, behind a canvas, or through their pen and voice.

The Independent School continues to build on the foundation originally guided by our founder, Mrs. Jean Garvey, thirty years ago:  to provide a cost-effective, college preparatory education for a lifetime of learning.  We strive to be a community of learners.

If you are interested in our exceptional school, I invite you to come to campus for a personal visit and tour.  It would be our pleasure and honor to further explore our school with you and your family.

Sept. 3, 2010

Dear TIS Families,

Happy 30th Birthday, TIS!  Yesterday's Founder's Day program gave us an opportunity to heartily thank Mrs. Jean Garvey for having the vision to start our school and to watch it grow from a dynamic Lower School into a thriving Middle School and then ultimately into a superior Upper School.  We also recognized our Senior Class of 2011 and their families.  It is magical to observe the youngest of our students look up to their older peers with admiration and friendship.  If you have a chance, please catch the article that was published in the Wichita Eagle today:

We have been in school together for just over two weeks now, but there is so much to celebrate!  It has been my pleasure to read a book and play my violin for a LS classroom, visit several MS classrooms, enjoy sports events as a huge fan of our Panthers, and visit with many TIS families.  It is my ultimate quest to learn each student's name over a short time span.

One of the best experiences is to observe our students interacting with new students in a positive manner.  This was certainly evident during the recent Fall Fest.  Here are a few reminders for upcoming parent opportunities to connect with each other within your division:

·        Lower School Parent Coffee, Wednesday, September 8, 8 a.m.
·        Middle School Parent Coffee, Wednesday, September 15, 8 a.m.
·        Upper School Parent Coffee, Wednesday, September 22, 8 a.m.

Our Meet the Teacher nights are as follows:
·        Lower School, Monday, September 13, 6 p.m.
·        Middle School, Tuesday, September 14, 6 p.m.
·        Upper School, Wednesday, September 15, 6 p.m.

As a reminder, the flow of traffic through our campus is one-way.
This helps not only with traffic control, but also the safety of our community.
We are in the process of posting additional signage to make sure the
flow of traffic is clear to all that come on campus; however;
if you see someone driving the wrong way, please feel free to let them know.

Enjoy a safe Labor Day weekend with your families and friends.

Sincerely,

Dr. Mary Dickerson
