Middle School
Welcome to the Middle School!
The Middle School is a place where students begin to define the person who they want to become. The Independent Middle School helps students develop their talents, create a sense of belonging, learn new skills, set goals, and solve problems, preparing students to make a difference in the world.
In addition to providing a challenging core curriculum, we believe that adolescence is a time to try new avenues such as instrumental music, drama, dance, computers and technology, vocal music, athletics, community service, problem solving, and many dynamic electives. Our mobile computer lab, classroom SMARTboards, classroom cable television, television recording studio, and other media technologies complement and enhance our programs.
Our school cultivates the students’ need to explore in a risk-free environment. From the field to the gym floor, from Student Council to Scholars Bowl, our students have many opportunities to get involved in the school community. If a student is interested in trying a new activity, then middle school is the place to be!
Our connections extend beyond the classroom. Parents can link to our teachers’ homework pages through The Independent School website, accessing daily assignments and receiving a snapshot of classroom topics. Be sure not to miss the Middle School Perspective page which provides weekly events of past and future. Each grade level communicates with families through their e-newsletters. Teachers and parents also communicate through e-mail, phone, and personal conferences. Student grades are accessed on-line through our My Backpack grading system.
The Independent Middle School is a place where students look forward to their day, look forward to coming to school, look forward to friends, and look forward to learning. Join us for a fantastic year!
